The Magic Of Play To Kids

Monday, August 24, 2015 Posted by Navish D No comments

So this week I was wondering what to write for the blog, then I saw it right in front of me.
On Saturday morning I was busy trying to do house chores when I looked outside the window to see a little boy playing football. He was so consumed by it, that he imagined himself on a field with friends (I guessed so). He kept on calling names and then saying pass the ball, kick it hard, just shoot pass it here and goooooal. My grandmother joined me and was like “the kid is disturbing his mum, she’s still asleep.”

I just grinned and acted like I had not noted her concern about the sleeping mother. I kept on staring at the little boy. He happily kicked the ball from one side of the compound to another. And smiled widely when he reached the other side of the compound, banging the wall with the ball and shouting out loud gooooal. I looked at him and somehow pitied him. I felt his loneliness and lacking of buddies to play with. He reminded me of my childhood when I had to make imaginary friends and play with them in the same manner. It’s not like there were no other kids in the neighborhood, it was morning and they were still locked up in their homes.

Well I didn’t have anything that I could do at that moment because I was occupied. So I thought maybe I would write something about it. We as grownups have to understand that the fun part of being a child is to be able to play, not just playing alone like the boy I saw., but to be able to play with other kids of the same age and circle of life. It’s an overwhelming feeling when you can just say something that those who are around you can just blend in. Locking kids at home all day everyday is not good. Even if they would be studying they still need an essential part of their growth, i.e. play. Not just play with classmates or schoolmates. They need to meet other kids too, that’s how bonds of friendship are created.

So as a parent you might e concerned about which kinda kids your child blends in with, if this is your thought then it’s fine though am not yet a parent I understand. If you are not comfortable with your neighborhood then you need to find another circle of friends for your son or daughter. Just like you would go around looking for a great saloon for your hair then do the same for your child. Move that extra mile, go ask your friends if they would like to let both your kids join together and play over the weekend. Ask them if they can all go out together for a game or picnic as long as you know that your kids get to play. It creates a magical moment for them. They feel love around, they feel accepted not just by their parents or guardians but also by those who are their peers. It teaches them the importance of friendship and respect right from a young age. Playing games helps them build self esteem and confidence that they can do something and be able to make something out of it.

Christopher Moore once said "Children see magic, because they look for it"So don’t keep them locked inside, give them a chance to see the world and explore it from their points of view. But yo! Don’t them wonder off alone. Keep an eye on them, they are still kids #wink.

The Smile of A Child

Monday, July 20, 2015 Posted by Navish D No comments

You know, I have always wondered why staying with children has changed my life. Glory be to God, I think I have found the right answer. One thing about a child's heart is that it's so pure and true and so is  his/her smile. A friend of mine once wrote a testimony about her little brother smiling at her at a time of trouble, it was overwhelming and it changed the situation.

Well no matter how much a child has been spoilt by his rearing process this fact does not not change; His smile is still pure  Have you ever wondered how the world would be if every one would love, care smile and lastly laugh like a child
Children have the right to play, learn and grow together

The smile of a child usually washes away my worries.

The Global Movement for Children

Rallying call for the global movement for children

In every child who comes into the world , the hopes and dreams of the human race are born anew.
Children are the bearers of our common future – a future that is in our hands as never before. For the world has the knowledge , the resources and the legal imperatives to give every child the best possible start in life, in a family environment that offers the love, the care, the nurturing that children need to grow, to learn and to develop to the fullest.

For this matter I urge you all to remember to do the following for children

1.       Leave no Child Out
Because every girl and boy is born free and equal in dignity and rights, all forms of discrimination and exclusion against children must end.

2.       Put Children First
Governments must meet their obligations to children and young people. At the same time, everyone - - including individuals, non-governmental organizations, religious groups, the private sector and children and adolescents themselves - must recognize their responsibility to ensure that child rights are respected.

3.       Care For Every Child
The survival and development of children is essential foundation of human development. No effort should be spared to ensure that children get the best possible start in life.

4.       Fight HIV/AIDS
Children and adolescents and their families must be protected from the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS

5.       Stop Harming and Exploiting Children
The violence and abuse that children suffer must be stopped now. And sexual and economic exploitation of children must also end.

6.       Listen to Children
Everyone must respect the right of children and young people to express themselves and to participate in decisions that affect them, consistent with their evolving capabilities. And we must listen and act.

7.       Educate Every Child
All girls and boys must receive a compulsory, free primary education of good quality.

8.       Protect Children from War
Children must be protected from the horrors of armed conflict.

9.       Protect The Earth for Children
There must be urgent steps by everyone of us – including governments, civil society  and the private sector – to assure the well-being and security of future generations by safeguarding the environment at global, national and local levels.

10.   Fight Poverty: Invest in Children

Because children suffer the most from poverty, the fight against it must begin with them. This includes investing in social services that benefit the poorest children and their families, such as basic health care and primary education. At the same time, the well-being of children must be a priority objective of debt relief programmes, development assistance and government spending.

The results of the campaign were presented at the Special Session on Children held by the United Nations General Assembly in New York 8-10 May 2002.
